The Police Want to Interview Me. Should I Talk?

Hire a defense attorney. Your attorney should speak with the police first to find out just what you will be asked and get an idea of the information they may already have. Your attorney should then be present if there is to be a meeting. You may politely refuse to be interviewed. Trying to talk your way out of trouble on your own is usually a bad idea.

I Missed a Court Appearance. What Happens Now?

You may have a warrant. Hire an attorney! Your attorney will go to court with you to get you on track. Ignoring a summons to court will not make it go away.

How Can Persons With the Same Charge and the Same Fact Pattern Face Different Consequences?

Are you a suspect in a criminal matter? Police gather evidence to use against you. Prosecutors are generally experienced competent trial attorneys who aggressively pursue their goal — to convict and punish — based on the evidence they are given by police. It is your defense attorney who will be protecting you. A strong protection can be crucial to how your matter gets resolved.

When Should I Get a Lawyer Involved?

The sooner a skilled defense attorney is involved in your situation, the better we can protect your interests and the more difficult it will be for the police and prosecutors to build a case against you. A police investigation or show cause hearing is the ideal time for your legal representation to begin.

I Feel My Rights Were Violated by the Police. What Can I Do?

You may feel helpless. In reality, there are many resources available to you — for example, motions to suppress or to expose a witness against you as unreliable or biased. No matter what the evidence is against you, if the court can be convinced that it was accessed in a way that violated your rights, it will be thrown out. This may include the use of excessive force (police brutality) or a witness against you giving favors. The list goes on. Hire an attorney who is skilled and aggressive enough to fight for you.
